Getting eyes checked yet again.

My vision seems to have tapered off. It has gone close to my original prescription: Near sighted. I'll only need my new glasses only for driving and seeing in the distance.

Doctor's visit

Our weekly visit didn't provide any additional information. My wife's delivery date is Friday next week. The OB isn't too concerned since he says all first babies are always late.

Finally finished

We finally completed the bookcase today. Of course I've been lazy the last couple of days, and my wife was totally disgusted with books everywhere.

It took me some time because I completed the case (simple rack and shelf system) but I incorrectly placed the cross braces and had to reorder them in order to avoid a 45 degree angle bookshelf. It felt like I was on a cruise ship hitting a huge wave.

But now, we got the books up and moved the dining room table as well. With that done we moved the couch back and it gives the living room a different look. Much better now.

Work remaining

We did alot of work at our apartment over the last three days, but we still have a ways to go.

We have to move our bookshelves over to the other end of the room and relocate our dining room table. That will allow us to expand the area we are currently using for the living room by placing the loveseat further out.

I also have to finish up our work in the kitchen, there's alot of wasted space and quite a bit of materials that we should throw out (cleaning materials and sundry cooking tools).

Once all that's done we can prepare to paint the bedroom. It will take some time considering I hate painting almost as much as I hate moving things around.

Rearrangement - Day 3

Today we didn't do much, I completed the move of my computer to the living room and moved my wife's iMac to the bedroom.

Unfortunately in the move of the iMac I connected the USB hub with the wrong power supply and blew out her keyboard and mouse. So off to CompUSA we went.

One hour and a new keyboard and mouse later we finish connecting her system and everything is working fine. This will make things a bit better in the bedroom since I'm generally a slob and end up making a mess with paper all over the place and usually knock things over with paper and books falling all over the place.

So now we have a better situation in the bedroom where I don't have to worry about waking up my wife or the baby. That was pretty much all we did today. Tomorrow we will move the bookshelves.

I don't know if he's nuts or not

Richard Branson, the mega-rich Virgin guy set a record for driving on water across the English Channel. I'm guessing that for him to set a record he'd have to drive about 20 feet. Then again maybe not...I'm sure that the world is full of folks that have tried to drive around the world...literally.

Father's Day

My wife insisted on us doing something for Father's Day today, so we took a walk and had a nice brunch.

After that we continued on rearranging our apartment a little at a time. Moving my computer out of the bedroom and putting it in the living room since I play Star Wars Galaxies and Dark Age of Camelot. That way I won't wake up her or the baby when he shows up.

I moved our stereo system to the other end of the living room and situated our CD collection closer to the stereo.

We have about 500 discs, and I am not intending to purchase any more since the music industry has decided to sue everyone for copyright infringement. Not that I am approving of wholesale downloading, but I don't see a problem with downloading a track or two for sampling.

The industry charges quite a bit for the music and they charge the musicians for expenses. It just seems to me that they care more about the bottom line than the customer base. Oh well. I guess that's the price of doing business.

Rearrangements

We decided to rearrange our furniture and throw away some items as well, in order to make some room.

We threw out our living room coffee table, moved our couches around and moved our television. We also moved two bureaus into the bedroom and began started to use that for clothing instead of generic stuff. We also moved a bureau already in the bedroom into another spot.

While it's not a giant amount of work, I am pretty much doing all this work by myself since I'm not about to have my wife lifting heavy furniture in her condition.

The dust I'm kicking up is putting a real hurt onto me since i'm allergic to numerous things, including dust. I'm exhausted.

Today

Today, she hits the 37 week mark. We've been on the launchpad for a couple of days so far and are preparing for any day now to get the this-is-it phone call dash.

I have so much work to do that I don't think I'm gonna make a dent, both on the home and work fronts.

Chilly morning

My wife turned on the A/C before she got into bed since it was somewhat warm last night.

I woke up this morning and sluggishly got out of bed as I normally do at 4:15 a.m. and I was freezing because of the A/C. I'm just curious as to how that will affect the baby when he finally joins us since my wife feels that the cold won't be a problem with the baby.

I'm just not certain that's gonna help. If the books say not to expose the baby to too much heat, surely the same applies for cold.

Eye check-up

I had my eyes looked at again. My eyes have changed so drastically that I need to have them looked at in two weeks before I invest in another pair of lenses. Once my eyes have levelled out enough that the optometrist obtains consistent results I can get my glasses redone.

I also need to have them checked out for retinopathy. Hopefully the results will be fine, I don't want to think about the possibility of losing my eyesight at the moment.

Weekly OB visit

Today was our weekly OB visit. My wife reported that she did not feel too much movement from the baby so he placed her on a fetal heart monitor to perform tests to make sure he's ok (I forgot what it's called).

He's fine, by the way. I also got to see the baby through the 3-D imaging sonogram. That was wild to see. The print-outs they give you don't compare to seeing the baby move in real-time.

Baby is doing great so far!

So unless she goes into labor this week, we'll see him again next week.

Lazy Day

Today was a lazy day, we picked up a few items: breast pump, bottles, sterilizer and some clothing. We looked at rocking chairs and a few dressers. We're getting closer, my wife has been experiencing more Braxton Hicks contractions.

Checkup

My appointment with my doctor went well. He's happy with my treatment so far, my diet and the medication is making a difference. I'm now averaging about 155 on my glucose count. We also have to keep my cholesterol down, it was way too high.

We took more blood to find out my A1C now, it was at 11.9 when they took blood three weeks ago. We should see a slight improvement since it's a 3-4 month average.

I already need to have my glasses changed again. My eyes have changed once more.

Done with classes

Last lamaze class today and we received a parchment certificate to show for it.

My wife wanted me to breathe with her but paying attention to the stopwatch was my limit. Multi-tasking isn't my strong suit. I'm not a chew gum and walk type of guy.

Perhaps all those years of drug abuse in my youth killed off those brain cells....hmmm, food for thought.

Busy schedule

Today is the only day this week where we don't have anything going on. Tomorrow is surgeon's visit for my wife, Thursday is final lamaze class and Friday is my doctor visit for my Diabetes.

We'll have to squeeze in grocery shopping sometime. Changing a diet is tough, I have cheated from time to time but I've been managing to watch what I eat. I've managed to lose another 5 pounds in the last week.

That's safer and healthier than the 25 pounds in 10 days that I lost earlier.

OB visit

We are now at the once a week visit phase in preparation for the day of delivery. Everything looks good except my small gripe: We had a 10:00 a.m. appointment. The doctor's office had to move it to 11:00 a.m. and we get there at 10:55, five minutes early. There were 5 other people there, we had to wait for almost an hour while they took these people first who had later appointments.

When asked the receptionist advised us that they take the patients as they come in. The receptionist asked if 10:30 a.m. was good for us for our next appointment and I laughed and said, "Sure, it doesn't matter anyway, we'll show up at 9:00 a.m." She clearly was not amused, but then again, neither was I.

Taking people as they come pretty much turns the scheduling of an appointment time into a farce.

Or perhaps it's me.

We picked up the stroller today, we got the Peg Perego Aria stroller. A friend gave us the infant car seat which was fortuitous since it was the same model my wife chose for our registry.

New glasses

I am fortunate in that my eyeglasses shop was able to make my glasses in under an hour for me.

I can now see again, however my prescription feels unusual: everything is magnified. The lenses are not thick but wow, big difference in what I had originally.

I will probably need to get the prescription changed again as my treatment progresses but for now I have something I can use.

Vision Changes

My eyesight has changed dramatically in the last 2 weeks.

For the last 10 or so years I was near-sighted. I wore glasses to see at a distance. Since I began taking my medication for diabetes I was able to see at a distance without the glasses.

Now my eyesight has changed yet again, I can see at a distance ok but my short range sight is shot.

Sigh...time to get a new pair of glasses. Even though it's too early in the treatment process to do this I still need glasses to see my paperwork at the office. The shop I will go to was closed by the time I got home but tomorrow they have late hours, I will go then.
