Oh no

My wife woke me up a 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning telling me she has been experiencing a gall stone attack since 10:00 p.m. Monday night.

Her doctors told us to rush to the Labor and Delivery Room at our hospital for montioring and treatment. We got there by 4:00 a.m. and they went through the same battery of tests we've had before, the biggest difference this time was the pain did not subside after 3 hours or so. As of 7:00 a.m. when we got her into a hospital bed and she received medication she had been in pain for 9 hours.

She received Demerol for the pain, which helped with deadening the pain but not resolving the problem.

We are waiting to see what will happen since the doctors are reluctant to perform surgery. She's 31 weeks into the pregnancy. Surgery in the third trimester may trigger premature labor.

We are now in a wait and see mode.

Gas Prices

At Queens Blvd. Mobil near 108th Street entrance to L.I.E. - mid grade gas costs $2.199 per gallon. And they're talking about $3.00 per gallon by Summer. Something is definitely wrong here.

Luckily I have a compact car with a 6 gallon tank. I feel sorry for those folks with SUV's and their 20 gallon tanks.

Using Gmail

Is not as bad as using say Hotmail. You have a lot more disk space for whatever nonsense you have but the advertising that you are subjected to isn't as in-your-face as Hotmail is.

Google's Gmail ads are the same format you see when you use Google's search page, it's text only moderately sized and on the right hand side of the page. And most importantly NO animated GIFs.

Any gmail you send out does not have imbedded ads.

We return

And although it was for a sad reason, my wife was glad we went to her Aunt's wake. She was able to see family she has not seen for over a decade. There was a general feeling of symmetry among the family members there. With the passing of my wife's aunt, they look forward to the addition of our son.

My wife was not stressed today. I thought she might be. Perhaps it was seeing family that made a difference. My family is not very close to each other and we don't spend much time speaking to each other either. My father and I have not spoken for over 20 years.

And the winner is

Not Action This Day. Lesson learned don't gamble.

Anyways my money will be tied up in kids stuff from this point on, so there's no need to wonder. I don't gamble much anyway, all I do is spend my money quickly and then sit around waiting to go home. Not much fun by my standards.

Today we attend the wake of my wife's aunt. She passed away earlier this week. This will stress her today.

My pick for this one: Action This Day at 30:1. Of course not a good choice but then again, I didn't bet on him either.

Game Show

On my way into the office this morning, I had an idea for a "Name That Tune" type of game. I call it "I Know This One". Any producers interested, drop a line. hehe

Just remembered

We picked up Schoolhouse Rocks for the bambino. Yah...and for me too....i still remember watching them as I eat my Fruity Pebbles.

Video Camera

Our video camera came in yesterday. We are purchasing more items on-line more often than usual. At first I was not comfortable with on-line commerce, but i'm getting used to it.

Nice Sony Hi8 camera with Night Vision filter. Ah...the joy of playing stalker and filming my baby while he sleeps when he's born.

Politics

While I'm having lunch and reading the newspaper, I keep reading articles about the war and the presidential race fighting.

I'm just wondering why the Republicans will spend $60 million on a Whitewater investigation only to find out Bill Clinton got a hummer but the 9/11 commission only will spend $19 million with a max cap of $25 million.

I don't know, but to me the death of thousands of people and funnelling of hundreds of millions of dollars is a lot more important than the purported millions the Clintons got hold of.

I guess that's why I don't pay too much attention to politics, the politicians just push the flavor of the day.

Work

Log in today and get message for GMail, Google's e-mail service. A gig of storage isn't so bad. Time to redirect info.


Other than that, it's always the same thing every day, trying to push as much paper as possible before I get emergencies throughout the day.

OB/Gyn follow-up

The baby is slightly larger than average, but nothing to worry about. Next appointment is in 3-4 weeks.

We ordered a video camera in preparation and began making room for the baby and his stuff.

Surgeon's Update

We saw my wife's oncologist today. The doctor was very happy with how the surgery has healed and expects my wife can have a vaginal birth, pending my wife's OB's ok.

A follow up appointment isn't needed until after the baby's birth and the gall bladder surgery. Woot!

Tax day

We make our first joint filing tax return payment. The first in an expected life-long tradition.

Lazy Sunday

Her first full day back and we spend the whole day watching the last 5 chapters of the 'Taken' mini-series on Sci-Fi channel.

Hospital - Day 3

After a check of her blood levels and seeing a gradual decline, her doctors have allowed her to come home. Apparantly she does not have an infection. As long as she maintains a low faw diet she shouldn't have any problems with her gall stones and after the pregnancy we can schedule her for surgery to remove her gall bladder.

Hospital - Day 2

I went to visit her at the hospital today, taking the day off work (my office has been very supportive for the last couple of months!). My wife told me her visit to radiology was not a pleasant one. The technicians ignored her and the 3 other patients waiting. After the intervention of an older doctor with a better bedside manner she was attended to and informed she has up to 6 gall stones, but would have to wait until the surgical specialists speak with her.

Her OB/Gyn stopped by (he was off for the day but stopped by out of concern) chatted with her and looked at her bloodwork taken the day before. He was concerned about the shape of her liver based on the bloodwork data.

He said the gall bladder will have to be removed but not until after the pregnancy. His major concern is a possibility of an infection to the liver due to the gall stones. That is a problem because then surgery to the liver and premature delivery of the baby will be required.

The doctors decided they will hold her another day on a low-fat diet to see if her bloodwork will return to normal levels. If so then the liver is in good shape and surgery is not required. They also want to be sure she can eat without experiencing the gall stones pain.

I left her at 8:00 p.m. so that she can sleep. It's been a long day.

Not an April Fool's Day.

In the morning I was parking my car at my office when my wife called with intense pain. We were worried that there was something wrong with the baby and I raced back home and rushed her to the hospital.

After a few hours there and several tests, we were informed that the baby was fine. The doctors were thinking maybe it was something she ate that gave her some indigestion. They couldn't find anything else that may be wrong so they released her and we went back home.


At 6:00 pm she experienced the pain again. We called her obstetrician and raced to the hospital. We waited for an hour before getting called into a room for examination. The doctor on call spoke with her OB/Gyn and they agreed that it appears she may be experiencing the pain of gall stones.

We waited for the radiology department to come get her to give her a sonogram on her gall bladder. We waited and waited. Her doctor gave up waiting and get a sonogram machine to take a look herself. She was able to determine that the gall bladder was inflamed, but could not determine any gall stones. Her appointment with radiology would have to wait until Friday. She was admitted to the hospital.

GD test

My wife had her blood drawn for the Gestational Diabetes test. We should get the results in by the end of the week. Her doctor had her drink a somewhat thick glucose syrup to avoid a false positive. We'll find out the results soon enough.

Doctor visit

My wife's OB/Gyn wants her to take a Gestational Diabetes test. That should be the final test. If it comes back as positive then there's a 3 hour test she has to sit through. Hopefully she'll be ok and it won't be a worry.
