Mom's B'day

Today is my mother's birthday. I didn't send her flowers or a gift since she really doesn't care for those things. She likes cards, so we sent her one from us and one from our son.

Baby sitting

I'm on baby sitting duties since my wife went out to dinner with a friend. I enjoy spending time with our son so I don't mind at all.

I get a kick out of hearing him laugh.

More car woes

I need to get new tires for my car since my tires are balding. I could live with that a little longer but now one of the tires is bulging out and ready to blow out.

I just picked up some Michelin's at Sears. Hopefully they'll last a bit. The city roads really give tires a beating.

Sunday rest

Really getting into Knights of the Old Republic 2. I didn't play the original game but I think I will since this one is really alot of fun. Good story and decent game play.

Another quick trip

We went out later in the day to look for Sims 2 expansion pack for my wife and the Knights of the Old Republic 2 for me.

I ended up getting Lego's Star Wars, I guess mostly because of the review on X-Play. It's a fun show to watch. Adam Sessler gets the oddball role on the show.

A few software packages and I walk out the door spending $147.32. If I had seen another 141 I would have gone straight to the local Pick 3 vendor.

My wife went back into the software store and bought the PSP unit and the Spiderman 2 game.

That totally threw off my 14x streak.

Quick trip

We stepped out to Babies R Us today to get a few items for the baby, diapers, formula, baby food, etc. A few things here and there and it comes out to $141.55.

Geez

New Pope

Today they install Pope Benedict. I'll watch the replay, I didn't get up at 4:00 a.m. to watch it live.

Baby dates

He is now 39 weeks old.

Groceries

We went out to the supermarket for groceries. A few things here and there came out to $141.35

Follow-up

I had an appointment with the doctor today as a follow-up to my "surgery". They took my blood and did a CT scan to make sure the infection is gone completely. It was a very long day and much probing was performed. The doctor opened up the wound again to get the little pus that was still in the wound.

I didn't get out of there until 1:45 in the afternoon. The doctor said I was in good condition but he wanted to see me again in 4 weeks. Makes me wonder because if I'm ok why am I going back?

First Full Day

First full day since leaving the hospital. It was very exhausting and after a day of sitting and standing and sitting and walking and sitting and climing stairs I was wiped out.

I need to lay down and take it easy.

Car inspected

I picked up my car today. New exhaust system. New front brakes, fluids changed, oil changed and a tune up on the engine. One Thousand dollars. Egads!!

Sunday, April 17, 2005

Sunday rest

I could not attend church this morning. My wound causes me so much pain and discomfort, the pews would be agony. Likewise I can't remain standing for long periods of time.

Pope John Paull II passes

We heard the news that Pope John Paul II died today. We have recently returned to church services and while I am not particularly a fanatic about it, there is a feeling of loss. This Pope did quite a few things in the 20 someodd years of his tenure.

Doctor Visit

We had a pediatrician's visit today. Our son is now 29 1/2 inches tall and 23 lbs. at 9 months. No shots today. Lucky for him.

We can start giving our son a few solid foods and pureed vegetables. No nuts or berries yet.

Car inspection

I took my car in to the mechanic for an annual inspection, oh boy.

My exhaust system and my brakes need more work than I anticipated. My car won't be ready until Monday

Baby dates

He's now 38 weeks old.

Home

I was released from the hospital today. I'm taking 2 different types of anti-biotics: Cipro and Metronidazole (I can't even pronounce it) and Tylenol with Codeine for pain.

I have a big hole going from my right cheek to my anus to allow as much pus to leak out. It is so far painful and uncomfortable to sit.

Work should be interesting.

Day 5

Since I've been in the hospital my blood sugar has not gone below 200. Egads.

Tuesday, April 12, 2005

Finally food

I got dinner today. Not much but since I haven't had food since Friday it was welcome. Chicken and string beans with a slice of bread and milk.

Day 4

They took more blood today. Still no food. The surgical staff came by looked at my wound and said depending on the Chief of Staff's determination I might get some food today since they don't anticipate surgery.

They are of the opinion that the anit-biotics are doing the work. It doesn't matter that I've been leaking out pus since Saturday night.

Day 3

Today they took more blood, pumped me with more anti-biotics and fed me more painkillers. Still no food.

My wife came by with the baby again. I told her not to come anymore since I'm not in a life threatening position and all she'll do is sit her while I sleep from the painkillers.

Also, she doesn't drive so she would have to impose on someone to drive her. I don't want her to do that.

Trust on machines

The surgical staff does not want to perform surgery to drain the pus because the CT scan taken in the emergency room shows a small pocket of pocket of puss that anti-biotics can handle.

Well earlier today I woke up with my sheets covered in blood and IV fluid. While the nurse was changing my sheets, I remarked that I have been leaking a lot of fluid which the nurse thought was fecal matter. I assured her that I was familiar with cleaning myself, that combined with the fact that I haven't had a bowel movement in 4 days.

It turns out that the staff was only looking at the surface of my abscess and not closer to the anus where the abscess opened up. Now the nurse looks at it and confirms that I'm releasing pus. She immediately calls a doctor over who looks at it and starts treating me.

The doctor thinks I'm ok for surgery to drain but he has to check with the Chief of Staff.

Day 2 in hospital

My wife came by to visit after taking the baby to the Children's Clinic. Turns out he has an ear infection. They prescribed anti-biotics and gave him a little Tylenol.

He should be ok after a little bit. I hear ear infections are common with children.

Still in hospital

They have me on IV fluids, no foods of any kind, not even water.

They have been taking blood from me twice a day.

Long way home.

My wife had to take a cab home from the hospital since I drove us there. I left my car in the hospital garage.

Can't wait

I woke up with a great deal of pain and my right buttocks is almost twice the size of my left.

We headed out for the emergency ward. I drove all the way there and I gotta say: IT HURT!!!

They admitted me with an abcess requiring draining.

On wrong track?

I told my boss I will be in late on Monday and I explained my problem to him. He said it sounds like a hemorroid.

I don't know too much about hemorroids so I did a little research. After a little reading it looks like I have what's called an Anal Rectal Abscess. Basically a buildup of puss in a cavity.

Not as bad as a torn muscle but it doesn't get rid of the pain.

Too much

This muscle is not getting any better and is starting to hurt too much.

I finally broke down and made an appointment with a Proctologist. I assume the doctor is one, since no one calls them that any more, now they're Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

The earliest appointment I can get is Monday so I guess that will have to do.

Baby dates

He's 37 weeks now.

Meeting

We had the meeting today and it went pretty good.

Unfortunately I now have to spend the rest of the day walking from my desk to the copier making about 150 copies of 3 - 5 page documents.

Not a good day to feel discomfort.

Trouble

This morning my right cheek was huge and in a great deal of pain. I was ready to go to the Hospital Emergency Ward but I went to the bathroom.

I was experiencing a need to go to the bathroom, i'm not sure if I really have to go or if the enflamed muscle is pushing down creating the sensation.

Anyway after I had a bowel movement the muscle got smaller and the pain subsided.

I guess that was all I needed. The muscle still hurts though.

Wednesday, April 06, 2005

Um...

It hurts to walk and sitting is agonizing. The muscle is getting harder and more painful.

Bowel movements aren't as painful as at first, but it's getting uncomfortable with my right cheek feeling almost twice as large as the left one.

I have a meeting to attend and I hope I can survive it. I'm now taking the Tylenol with Codeine I was prescribed for my wrist to allieviate the pain i'm now experiencing.

Feeling Better

This time in the bathroom wasn't as bad as yesterday. I had a normal bowel movement with little pain but much struggle.

It feels as if i'm getting better.

Monday, April 04, 2005

Oh my GOD!!!

I had to go to bathroom and I thought I was going to pass a bowling ball. By the time I was done, it turned out to be the size of a grape and there was a little blood there too.

I think I'm in trouble here even though the medical website I researched said that this is common with a torn sphincter muscle.

Pain

It appears I tore a muscle in my buttocks area. It hurts quite a bit now, not so much but it feels a little worse as the day passes.

Baby is now 36 weeks old. On the 16th he'll be considered 9 months old.
