Memories

I smoked a Cohiba cigar that was given to me by a sub-contractor who came back from El Salvador from a family crisis.

That reminded me of a friend from the company that we lost about a year and a half ago, actually more. it was the late Spring after our wedding he passed away.

I miss him, he was a great guy who spoke his mind regardless of the circumstances.

Danny, you are missed every day.

Yet another day home

I had to take another day off because I'm not feeling any better. I'm waiting to get an appointment from the doctor. He's gonna tell me to take a lot of liquids and take it easy but my wife is nervous especially since her hospital stay this Summer.

One of the best villians around

How can anyone not dig Darth Bobo?

A classic

Everyone knows this one.

Looking for merchandise

I used my personal Amazon account to order 2 cameras for the owner's trailers at 2 separate projects.

I didn't want to use a third party vendor but my office didn't think it was a problem. Anyhoo, it is now a week into it and the cameras haven't shipped yet. According to Amazon the camera's shipping parameters are September 30 to October 16. That is quite a wide range.

Just great!

I forgot to come down and move my car in time so I got a ticket for parking in a street cleaning zone for today.

A half hour earlier and I would have been fine.

Required day off

I needed to take a day off today, although I have a meeting to attend today and I'm going to have to miss it.

I'm sitting in the house with fever, sweats, muscle aches, diarhhea and a deep need to vomit although I tried unsucessfully several times.

I need to see my doctor. I thought maybe I needed to take some diabetes medication but I'm showing a 137 blood sugar and that's fine.

Struggling evening.

My wife has bible studies tonight. I dropped her off at the church and took the baby home. He fell asleep on the way there and hasn't woken up since.

I have had a lot of intestinal discomfort (that's the nice way of saying it) tonight.

Not feeling well

I did not feel well at all today. I left the office early because the last thing I want is the intense need to puke while I'm sitting in traffic.

Voting took place

We had a co-op board meeting last night. I had never attended one before even though I've been here for about five years or so.

There were some tenants that were running for the board and over the weekend they have been campaigning for the buildings votes. Out of the four that were trying to replace the existing board, three successfully won a position.

It's unusual to me the entire process. There was quite a bit of infighting. The existing Board President remained however she's in the capacity of Vice President now.

It was so hot in the room I had to walk around with our son to keep him calm. By the time it was over and voting took place I filled out our ballot and took our son upstairs leaving my wife with the others.

Katrina's toll

Is it any surprise that there would be some form of graft flying around? When you deal with money on that level, the people on the in are usually the first ones out of the box with contracts.

Lobbyists have seen to that.

Cosmos

It's been 25 years since this series first aired on PBS. There have been quite a few advancements in how we perceive and dectect objects in space. The graphics have been revamped. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Rising prices

In one week another drop of about 10 cents. Of course that means an increase of 35 cents is coming since Hurricane Rita made it's way through the Gulf.

At this rate we'll see gas prices go back down to it's normal pricing sometime around NEVER!

Price of gas

Maybe this will fix it. I think I figured out the problem. If you're uploaded image is named the same as a previous image you will have a problem. I ended up copying the posting of a previous image and changed the name of the link to match the new name I gave this image and it seemed to work.

Hopefully I didn't screw things up too badly.

Price of gas

I can't post the image of the gas chart for this morning. I'll try again later.

Hmm.

For some reason I can't upload any images. I guess I'll have to wait until it works or if it's a security issue with my computer here at the office.

Gloomy Sunday

Our son had a hard time last night. He had a really bad bout of diaper rash. He had a large area of redness across is entire butt. It even spread to his testicles.

We spread a liberal amount of diaper rash cream on him but it didn't help. My wife gave him a bath hoping it will make him feel better but he wanted nothing to do with it. Apparently the water just made it feel worse.

He managed to fall asleep out of sheer exhaustion, although on the positive side we were able to have dinner while he slept. I made a meatloaf (how original) with mashed potatoes and corn. Very simple but effective.

Jellyfish in love

Another one that I found on my computer.

Watched a movie

We popped in a DVD called Sherlock: A Case of Evil. As if you couldn't guess it was a Sherlock Holmes movie.

It starred James D'arcy as Sherlock and Vincent Donofrio as Moriarity. I thought that Donofrio was Sherlock in the description on Netflix but I was wrong.

It had Sherlock older than Young Sherlock Holmes but younger than Basil Rathbone. It portrayed Sherlock as a playboy of sorts and a publicity shill as well. Donofrio was a flamboyant Moriarity with a nice stamp of archvillian making him a good choice as the bad guy.

It was an interesting take on an old subject. And it had a nice touch of resonance to modern topics as well.

Overall I enjoyed it.

But then again, I have very few expectations when I watch movies.

Found on my computer

I have no idea what this is or why I had it but it definitely has this Hellraiser feel to it.

Jellyfish

I found this picture on my computer. I thought it had a nice appearance to it.

Chilling out

My son was getting worked up but after a little while he starting cooling out with Noggin and Oobie

Comments

You really have to pay attention to the comments that are posted because sometimes they're just spam pointing to one thing or another.

Keyboard troubles

I was fighting with my son trying to complete the previous post as he kept reaching for my keyboard and mouse.

If it wasn't for Miffy and Friends on Noggin I'd have lost the fight. The channel is just enough of a distraction that I can get things done.

Our son loves the moose and bird (I bet you thought I was gonna say squirrel) in between each show.

Right now he's digging Blue's Clues. I'm really gonna have to get picture-in-picture if I expect to see anything on TV while he's awake.

Long night

My son was a handful last night. I got home at a decent time I'm normally home by 6:00pm but today I managed to get home by 5:30, My wife also had a long week so I let her take a nap while I watched our son.

I put Cellular on the TV as we played. My son seemed like he wanted to nap so I set up his chair for him. We have it in front of the TV with toys piled on it to keep him from banging on the TV.

So I put him in the chair and gave him some milk to drink. He looked like he was about to sleep but all of a sudden he got this spurt of energy and tried to bolt from the chair.

I had a drink that I wanted to enjoy, not much just Rum and Coke. However it was the last of my Rum so I wanted to savor it. It was high and away since my son manages to find everything he shouldn't go near and I really don't want Child Services coming to my house because my son got his hands on my booze.

I took him out of his chair and started putting the chair back in front of the TV and started piling on the protective layer of toys. As I finished and stood up I see my son on the couch reaching for my drink. He is quite fond of ice cubes and he wanted one. However I placed it far enough that he couldn't reach it but it was close enough that his fingers could graze it.

He must have been reaching for it for a minute or so because it didn't take long for me to pile up the chair and I turned just in time to see his hand slap the cup off my computer and spill everywhere.

You can guess I was a bit upset. I had to clean it up, get rid of the ice before my son could pick it up and put it in his mouth. Plus I'm all out of Rum. To keep my son out of the way I put him in his highchair and turned on Classical Baby which was currently running on HBO on Demand. I gave him a few Goldfish crackers and some milk but we were out of whole milk all we had left was Skim Milk. It won't do him any harm but he needs the fat content that my wife and I are trying to avoid.

At the same time our cat was crying for food so I had to feed her. Turns out we have just enough cat food for this feeding.

Just wonderful I thought to myself, no milk, no catfood, no rum...what a night. Then the lightbulb went on! Ding! I can take our son out and I can pick up a few things. The fresh air will be good for him and I can get my booze. (I'm not fooling myself, I just needed to formulate the right angle I was going to take with my sophistric argument) I took the opportunity to pick up some mango for our son and a cheese cake for my wife. Everybody is happy!

But by then I was too tired to enjoy my drink because I could feel it's coming on bedtime for me. So at least I have my rum for today.

Not a good day

I got this funny feeling about today. I feel like staying home but I gotta go to work.

Lottery

Still no word on the co-op lottery. It's only been 10 days since the cut-off deadline so I'm assuming it's not a first come-first serve situation.

I hope it's good news that we haven't received our money back yet.

Price of gas today

Oak Street
Mount Vernon, Westchester, NY

A mantra

Sometimes this just sums up my days at the office.

Sometimes I don't understand people.

NYC has potholes, construction plates and general asphalt damage. It's a big city with alot of traffic, you gotta expect these things.

But I don't get how SUV drivers go around or go slowly over these things. Come on folks, that's what the vehicles are made for, go over them at regular speed. I just go through these things with my little Geo Metro and these big cars slow me down as they gingerly navigate these obstacles.

What a waste of machinery.

What the hell is going on?

No sooner do I make a post about airplane crashes that CBS announces a problem with an Airbus plane trying to make an emergency landing because of trouble with the landing gear.

Jeez...who's reading this?

My Name is Earl

The reviews painted this show as a knee-slapper, full guffaw comedy.

While I thought this had a few funny moments, I don't see this as funny as the reviewers thought it was.

If the writing stays as it was with the pilot episode, then I see it lasting a few years. But every minute laugh out loud funny? Not really.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. Especially since it was only a half hour long. But not as much as the reviewers.

A nice cup of tea

I thought we had a tough time with our pregnancy but this story is still going on.

Trouble eating

We can't get our son to eat heated food. For the last two days we tried to get him to eat the small pre-made foods, like Chef Boyardee stuff, but for infants.

No luck.

The best we can do is getting him to eat mashed potatoes but they have to be cold, which to me is nasty as all hell.

He likes meatloaf too but that has to be cold as well. I can get him to eat pizza crust but he just chews it until is a mushy lump of goo.

I guess we'll just keep trying until he's ready.

Just remembered

I was listening to the radio...well the streaming of the radio transmission is more accurate.

But while I was listening Creedence Clearwater Revival came on and that reminded me that a few weeks ago the major networks had a fundraiser for the Hurricane Katrina survivors and the Foo Fighters were on that broadcast. They performed Born on the Bayou and it was a great cover.

I was blown away by their energy, they were tight and you just know they loved what they were playing.

Wow

There are a few people that actually read this. That surprises me since I didn't think anyone did.

I mean there are always a few that will come across it but I didn't think anyone actually read the past posts. I just assumed they looked at the gas prices, assumed I'm a nut and moved on.

It might encourage me to be a little more pensive.

Then again, maybe not.

Hollywood studios team up to fight piracy - Tech News & Reviews - MSNBC.com

This is all well and good but I don't see them going after the real culprits of movie piracy. I see alot of counterfeit DVDs and videotapes sold by Asian men walking in industrial section going from building to building selling their discs mainly.

But I guess it looks better going after people with websites since they're readily accessible as opposed to the fella walking with a shopping bag.

A drop of 10 to 15 cents in about 5 days. It still doesn't seem fast enough for me. Maybe I'm being persnickety about it.

A lingering thought

I remember thinking to myself that the news both in print and television were reporting a plane crash on a weekly basis prior to Hurricane Katrina.

And now afterwards not one single report on a crash. Is it because it's no longer big news or are planes flying problem free now? I just don't know why the media picks a topic to run to the ground.

But then again, if no one watches or reads it then would they do it? It's a Catch-22 I guess.

Afternoon watching movies

We watched the rest of Cursed, we couldn't watch the rest of it last night since our son was cranky and we needed to put him to bed.

It was last year's Wes Craven directed horror movie with Christina Ricci in the lead. It was written by Kevin Williamson who has a track record of decent horror movies such as the Scream series, I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Faculty, as well as Dawson's Creek (which is a different type of horror).

The writing injected a nice amount of humor and the star appearances seemed to be merely for the box office factor, although I like that they threw in Scott Baio who didn't mind being treated as somewhat of an asshole.

The special features in the DVD were a bit scant but each one gave you specific details.

My main problem was during all the clips the actors were each telling how much fun it was to be on a Wes Craven set but the disc didn't include deleted scenes.

We also watched an older movie called Beowulf with Christopher Lambert, a post-apocalyptic version of the old poem. I was always curious about this movie and now that I know......I wish I had remained curious. At least I would have had that.

Another Sunday

We took a quick trip to get some supplies at Babies R Us and we decided to go into BJ's Wholesale Club. It looks the same as Csstco which we are already members of but they have a few different options. They accept all credit cards not just American Express like Costco. They also accept coupons, which doesn't matter to me since I don't use coupons.

About 2 hours and $200.00 later we left BJ's and we didn't go to Babies R Us since we didn't need to then. At the same time we also picked up a few things, mainly a big wheel of shrimp which we decided to have for dinner.

My only problem now is how are we going to pay for all this?

Bug Carousel

A picture of one of the bugs on the Carousel.

A day at the zoo

We headed out to the Bronx Zoo today. We didn't stay long but we had a nice time. We were there for about 4 hours. We saw the butterfly exhibit section. Our son liked it but was upset because he couldn't touch any of the butterflies.

He got to ride the Bug Carousel with my wife. They had a nice time.

We left shortly after visiting the Children's Zoo because it started to rain but it turned out not to rain hard at all or much even.

Traffic on the Whitestone Bridge was ridiculous. With all the construction going on with that bridge, going from 3 lanes to 2 is bad enough but there are always accidents that forces the traffic down to 1 lane.

Why do people always have to ride up your ass along the way?

Friday, September 16, 2005

Here I go again.

We went to bed at 9:00 last night and our son was up and about. He just refused to sleep. He finally fell off at about 10:00. He woke us up at 1:00 in the morning when he finished his bottle and wanted more. We didn't have one made and had to get one ready. He just wouldn't fall back asleep.

He finally fell aslepp at about 2:30. However at that point my wife and I were cranky because we are tired and we just argued and said nasty things to each other.

I didn't fall asleep until 3:30 just for my alarm to go off at 4:15. I turned off the snooze and got up at 5:00. So I got a total of 3 1/2 hours. Just not in a row.

I am tired as all hell right now.

Not so hopeful

At the least the price for regular dropped by 20 cents but that's nowhere near the amount it should drop by. They didn't hesistate to increase it by twice that in less than a week and here we are still waiting for it to get to an acceptable level.

Depressing

The amount of debt we're carrying now is burying me. I don't know how quickly we can get out from under this.

Don't get me wrong. I make good money and I pay more than the minimum balance (jeez, I can just imagine how much agony I'd be in if I did) so we'll be out sooner or later it's just a matter of when.

I'm writing checks adding up to thousands of dollars a month. It's a killer.

iPod Nano

I found this picture on a Japanese website. They went through the trouble of buying an iPod Nano just to take it apart.

Short day

I went into the office late today because my wife still doesn't feel well and she needed sleep. I think she has a touch of bronchitis but she doesn't want to see a doctor yet. I guess she'll wait until she is coughing so much she can't speak.

Monday, September 12, 2005

This sucks

I spent most of last night watching this 6 hour mini-series and I fall asleep during the last 25 minutes.

Total bummer.

Tough decision

Boy was I running late today. I walked into the bedroom to say goodbue to my wife and I see my son sitting up all wide eyed and awake.

It was tough for me not to call in sick and just stay home and play with him.

He was too cute.

Something to consider

An excellent article about price gouging at the pumps and when to really pay attention.

Not so deep thoughts

On this the 4th anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks, it's saddening to see just how much has stayed the same since then.

There was a great deal of chest pounding going after Osama Bin Ladin but he's still hanging around.

Our military forces did away with the Taliban in Afghanistan but a large portion of funds and personnel were redirected to Iraq allowing the Taliban to slowly resurge.

The price of gasoline had jumped up to $5.00 a gallon in places and dropped just as dramatically but here we are looking at $3.50 - $4.00 a gallon in many places with no foreseeable future for a quick return to the original pricing.

President Bush stalled and did not react quickly enough to the attacks and once again he did not react quickly enough to the devastation that took place in the Gulf Coast.

There are several more parallels but right now I'm just too saddened and depressed to think about them.

The saddest part is this is the world that my son and his generation will inherit.

Saturday in the Park

We arrived at the park for the party a bit early. An hour and a half early actually. My wife got a different time than I did and we were both wrong.

We left before the cake was served but we were there for the most part. Our son is getting crankier and crankier every time he doesn't get what he wants. I'm not sure how to handle that as he gets older. My only answer right now is to isolate him and keep him away from what he wants.

He still doesn't understand that falling on concrete hurts and that purtting broken glass in his mouth can really hurt. Maybe my overprotectiveness is a detriment but I rather have him safe than getting stitches.

He'll have plenty of time later for injuries when he's older.

One more birthday party

We have a birthday party to go to today at van cortland Park in the Bronx. When people think of the Bronx they think of dilapidated buildings and slums. Yes, there is some of that but the Bronx has changed quite a bit since the 70's.

There are beautiful sections now. The South Bronx is building up as eell. There are rough areas still, just as in any borough but you can raise a family there. We got up early since the party is starting early. With kids it's best to do things early.

I'm such a nerd

I almost picked this up yesterday.

Price of gas

The price of oil has dropped steadily for the last 3 days but the price of gas has dropped only 4 cents for regular but it has increased for super and super plus.

Are we going to be stuck with the $3.00 a gallon plus days? It's criminal how much we are expected to just keep shelling out for every little thing.

I'm waiting to see the cost increase on all things plastic since they are all petroleum based.

Maybe those guys that were running their cars on used fried chicken oil had something there.

Son's bad night

Last night my wife was tired and had to lay down. I gave our son a bath and brought him to bed. He's been somewhat cranky last night.

At midnight he started crying even though he was still asleep. My wife brought in a bottle for him, and he fell back asleep but woke up again at 3:30 a.m.

I gave him the rest of the bottle and he started sleeping again.

Hopefully he won't be too cranky today. I have a big meeting and I can't stay home so my wife will have to deal with it alone.

My pains

Oh yeah..

I just realized that I may not have mentioned the disease that I have and have grown up with.

It's called (as far as I know) Multiple Hereditary Ostosis. It's basically additional bone growth development. My extra bones started to develop when I was young 9 or 10 or so. I've been told that they usually begin to show when one hits puberty.

I'm 40 years old now and my bones have pretty much grown symetrically except when I take some heavy damage to my body. The bones don't cause me pain until recently and I've been told thats unusual. My sister has this as well as my mother and they have had almost 10 operations between them. My worry is how it will affect my son.

I been told by a geneticist that there is a 50/50 chance my son will have it. I'll have to wait about 10 years or so to find out.

Not a usual day

My wife had a hard night and I had to stay home from the office today. It's been a long day.

I took my son to the doctor who's been a little cranky and he's been having diarrhea for a couple of days.

Our doctor said that the diarrhea was probably a reaction to his having whole milk for the last weeks. She said that should go away in a few months as his body is getting accustomed to it.

Additionally he's having his molars come in which presents more agony for him.

I took the family home and as I was taking my son out of the car I slipped and fell onto the asphalt.

I turned my body to that I took the damage and cushioned my son but he was somewhat startled and cried for some time.

The thing that bothers me is that I lost my balance for no reason. I didn't trip over anything, my feet were firmly planted but I lost my balance. I'm a little concerned that this might be a side-effect of a more serious condition. I didn't voice my concern or worry to my wife since that might make her really scared and cause her to over-worry. Overall I'm ok. I just caused some severe pain to my extra bones in my knees.

I have Ostosis which is extra bone growth. Over the years I have observed that when I take a serious enough injury that it hurts to the bone I usually have a growth develop on the damaged section of bone. I'm just curious as to what happens to damaged bone on bone growth.

Frustration

It's getting to the point where it may be cheaper to take public transportation than to drive.

The government and the experts are saying that the price of gas has peaked and we shouldn't expect higher pricing but I'm not so sure. Either way I don't expect these prices to drop as quickly as they rose.

Now that the oil companies see that the public will pay that price anyway I think they'll drop the prices to about $2.75 and leave it there. Their profits will rise and they'll be happy and spend enough cash through lobbying to keep them that way.

Maybe that's a jaded way of looking at it but I don't see anything brighter coming our way. The cost of living is getting ridiculously overpriced. Maybe it's time to look for a simpler way of life and leave the city.

Long day coming

Tonight when I get home we're heading out to the supermarket to pick up a few things. They didn't deliver groceries on Monday because of the holiday.

My wife doesn't have bible study tonight, she goes next week and then it's weekly from then on out.

Proposition

About 10 days ago my mother-in-law called us and offered to provide housing for us in Utah until we were able to find a place of our own out there.

Essentially she would like us to move out there. While I am not against going out there I do have a few concerns.

I'm not too sure it would be better for us, sure the cost of living is less but our debt load is still present. Maybe if we didn't have any bills to pay it wouldn't be a bad thing but at this point in time it's not feasible.

Additionally my wife's relationship with her mother is strained at best. Do I really want her to be exposed to that 24 hours a day?

Something new

I'm not sure if this is an actual prototype or if it's Phillips attempt to boost their stock pricing. I admit it looks impressive in a TekWar sort of way. Phillips designed their prototype in months rather than the two years they predicted.

Labor day

Considering when we normally get up today was a late day. My wife woke up at 10:00 a.m. I was watching the CSI marathon on Spike TV and playing with our son. He's been a bit cranky. He's only been awake for about 2 or 3 hours and he's had two explosive diarrhea episodes.

We're going out to get a mat for the bathtub, replacement ice cube trays and a new cookie sheet. Very domestic.

I forgot to mention, we're also going to get a few things at the grocery store if they deliver today.

Movie Sunday.

I let my wife and sister-in-law go to the movies while I watch the baby.

My sister-in-law offered to watch the baby while we went to the movies but I don't think that she knew what she was getting herself into. He's been cranky alot lately. I think that's because his molars are coming in and giving him a hard time.

They went to see The 40 Year Old Virgin.

Walk around

We hit a street fair and my son got his first pony ride. He had this look of intense concentration, like he was trying to figure out what was going on.

Ahh...the bliss of youth.

Late night

The girls are on their way home and cake hasn't been served yet. This is going to be one long night for these people. I was awakened by my wife's phone call but I'm just going to go back to bed after this post.

Lucklly it didn't wake the baby.

Party?

My wife called me to tell me that they are about to serve dinner at the party now. The surprised birthday girl showed up just a few minutes ago. I am very grateful that I came home because I would be dying right now.

They placed my wife and her sister at the head table. They felt very uncomfortable since her children and grandchildren were at the surrounding tables watching them all. I would have been sweating like a dog.

No more party time

I left the party early. I was uncomfortable to the point of misery. I had a light blue shirt on and the level of sweating I was enduring was agonizing. There was a large dark blue blotches all over my collar, chest, elbows and of course the pits.

It was a surprise party. The guest of honor was to arrive at 8:45 but at 9:00 there was no activity and no feedback from anyone as to what was going on.

I couldn't take it. I had to come home. I took the baby with me becuase he needed his sleep and he has been particularly cranky lately. We think his molars are coming in and he's just a miserable as I was.

Considering I couldn't sleep last night much means I am going to be dead tired today.

A plea from a Mayor

It's sad, the level of despair and misery present in the faces you see on print. And it's even worse on TV.

It's infuriating people that the gevernment has yet to act. I heard the mayor of New Orleans on the radio this morning. I think this is the first time I have ever heard a politician speak like a normal human being; someone who would be my neighbor or co-worker.

In those few words he had, you felt his anger and you understood it. In this country where we are supposed to be the standard of modern civilization, to have this happen is unimaginable.

Lottery

We just sent out our Mitchell Lama application for an apartment in Roosevelt Island. The best we can hope for is a 2 bedroom apartment.

The conditions are pretty good. The apartments have a terrace and the building has access to a gym and a pool.

Hopefully we'll be selected for either an immediate apartment or placed on the list relatively close to present. I'd hate to find out we're on a 4 year waiting list.

Fats found

Fats Domino is safe and sound. His whole family was found and picked up. He says that they lost everything they have but they are healthy and safe.

Depressing

I am just amazed at the level of anarchy being reported from New Orleans. Very disturbing.

Our government has yet to send anything or anyone out there. The president is on vacation and the vice-president is preparing his campaigning stops.

It just seems like Louisiana and Mississippi have been left to fend for themselves.

Gouging

This is ridiculous. In less than a week the price of gas went up her almost 10 cents a gallon and this particular gas station has not received a delivery of gas yet.

I can just imagine how much more it's going to go up in a couple of days as things continue to get worse.
